The Family Puppy
Suitable for puppies 10 weeks to 6 months old
Service Description
Firstly, Congratulations on getting your new puppy! As puppies do not enter our lives pre-programmed (if only) it is our job to help them fit into our homes and lifestyles in the best way possible. We have a lot of social currency as our puppy's guardians and your puppy is totally dependant on you for their welfare. We will be covering training basics, to include: * walking on a loose leash, both sides * recall * sit & down * wait & stay * greeting politely instead of jumping up * not mouthing or chewing inappropriate items * releasing an item ( "out" or "drop" ) * leave * toileting outside * being left alone * You will learn how arousal or stress affects learning and why it is important that your puppy should have enrichment activities and enough rest time. Home visits are a great opportunity to get things right from the start. When I show you how you can control your puppy's environment, it enables your puppy to learn more with less mistakes. At home, we can set up some predictable patterns of precedent (PPP's) for your puppy to help them feel secure and develop trust in you. As training progresses, I advise you visit me for training, so that your puppy's learning and skills are further established in a different environment. I use positive force free training methods, which involves lots of encouragement and whatever your puppy finds most rewarding (food, toys and praise) Your puppy will not be expected to be "in school" for the whole hour (it is too tiring for puppies) as I will also be teaching you some skills, including clicker training, so be prepared for some homework and a chance to ask questions about training. Training sessions can be purchased individually, however, you should aim to complete all 5 sessions in the programme. Training in your home will incur a $10 travel surcharge. Please note: Your puppy needs to have a flat collar, and/or a suitable harness plus a leash. I do not advocate the use of check chains, prong collars or e-collars. Clickers, treat pouches, long lines and whistles are available to purchase.
